Big dogs age too. Here are the wheels that keep them adventuring.

Labradors, Retrievers, German Shepherds, Bernese, greyhounds and lurchers all reach a point where their heart still wants the long walk but their hips, spine or paws no longer agree. And it is not only age: post-surgical recovery, arthritis, IVDD and heat-sensitive breeds all leave owners of larger dogs with the same problem. Most pet strollers stop at 20 or 25kg. Yours needs to carry two or three times that, without buckling, tipping or feeling like you are pushing a wheelbarrow.

Both fold quickly and have front and rear access doors, which older dogs appreciate.

How to choose

Match the capacity to your dog's weight with 20% headroom so the stroller is never at its limit, and check the cabin length against your dog measured nose to tail base; if either is tight, step up to the Apollo. If your dog struggles to step up, prioritise low entry (Hercules) or a rear door (R8). On cycling: all four run as bike trailers, so choose by how often you ride. Bike most days, choose the Bexey.
